Get started
Start Locomotion on your desktop
Install OpenLoco and point it to your original Locomotion files. The Mac release is for Apple silicon.
Project detailsWhat you need
Prepare a legally owned Locomotion installation with its graphics, music and sound data. Use Windows x86/x64, Linux x86-64, or an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer). Keep the game data separate from OpenLoco.
Your first launch
Choose the official package
Select Windows 32/64-bit ZIP, Linux x86-64 AppImage, or macOS Apple silicon ZIP on the official download page. This guide follows v26.09; no Intel Mac download is advertised.
Install without replacing your original game
Windows: extract the ZIP into its own folder. macOS: extract it and move OpenLoco.app to Applications or your preferred folder. Linux: use the official AppImage. Retain your original game-data folder separately.
Locate the original data on first launch
Open OpenLoco. If your installation is not detected, use the browse prompt to select your Locomotion data folder. After data loads, choose a single-player scenario; this release has no multiplayer.
Before you continue
The Mac app is unsigned and unnotarized, so Gatekeeper may block it; consult the official instructions for that package. OpenGraphics does not make original data optional. These steps are based on documentation, not an installation or gameplay test.
