What it recreates
It combines spreadsheet editing and formulas with linked tables, configurable views and data access controls.
What’s different
Typed columns, linked records and Python formulas make it useful for structured operational data rather than arbitrary Excel-style cell layouts.
What you can use today
Community core v1.7.22 adds an in-document Widget Creator, more sorting controls and clearer import/access-rule messages. It has no GitHub release attachments; the README provides Docker and source-run instructions. Desktop packages are released separately, and hosted free/paid plans and enterprise features remain separate choices. Self-hosting needs a server; hosted plans require an account and have usage limits. Its data model differs from Excel.
