What it recreates

Vanguard is an independent browser RTS engine built for Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge data, currently focused on Soviet single-player skirmishes.

What’s different

The engine runs in the browser and separates Classic mode, which uses original game data, from Original mode, which uses repository-authored assets. AI contributes to development and some assets.

What you can use today

This is a development slice with no formal release, requiring Node.js 20.19+ and a local development server. Classic mode needs lawfully obtained RA2/YR files; Original mode needs no original game. Allied forces, netplay and Yuri gameplay are not complete, so this is not a full Red Alert 2 recreation.

Sources & notesSources checked:

AI / REA provenance AI development / some assets

The roadmap documents Claude orchestration and Opus development/verification agents. ASSETS.md distinguishes model-generated images/TTS from procedural sound and unit sprites. AI participation is established for development and some assets, not every asset.

Development scope and AI process · Asset provenance and licensing

The README identifies independence from OpenRA, RA2/YR file compatibility and two asset modes; docs/ROADMAP.md limits the current scope to Soviet skirmish.
